Visiting Macau, China ♥

With its rich Chinese culture and vibrant Portuguese heritage,
it is such a pleasure to celebrate the uniqueness of Macau.

This was the Japanese bento box dinner our son ordered from Room Service plus the Dim Sum we ordered
~ we were all so tired from our trip, that we couldn't seem to muster enough energy to dine out anymore, hu-hu-hu (LOL)

Macau is a place where you feel you are in Europe when actually you are really still in Asia. (chuckle, chuckle)
Portuguese piazzas, colorful villas and cobblestoned streets blend in seamlessly with Buddhist temples, bustling markets and traditional Chinese gardens.
Macau's Meditteranean style and perfect combination of culture makes it an appealing destination.
We enjoyed Macau's unique architecture and history by visiting Senado Square, St.Dominic's Church, the Ruins of St.Paul...

St.Dominic's Church
~ a Catholic church which is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Historic Centre of Macau

The mixture of East and West into something Macanese is evident in the European architecture alongside Chinese characters.
The street signs are oftentimes Portuguese while many tourists and employees are Chinese.

Ruins of St.Paul Cathedral
This 16th-century cathedral, which is considered Macau's famous landmark, features a spectacular facade with intricate carvings by Japanese monks.

(my son took this pic of me in the steps of the Ruins of St.Paul Cathedral ~ was squinting because of the heat despite the sudden onset of rain!)

They say every visit to Macau needs to include a stop at the Ruins of St.Paul (at Rua de Sau Paulo).
The front facade is what is left of the Church of Mater Dei (the largest Catholic church in Asia back in its day) built in the 16th century.
It was destroyed by a fire in 1835.
And in 2005, the Ruins were officially enlisted as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Historic Centre of Macau.

When in Macau, it is a must to savour their delicious Portuguese Egg Tarts!
(We did ~ and it was delicious!)
