MARANG
I just love-love-love this fruit! ♥
Marang
Scientific name: Artocarps odoratissimus
Marang is sweet and good ~ a rather tasty fruit.
It is also one of the most nutritious fruits found in the Philippines.
It is high in protein, carbohydrates, fiber, calcium, phosphorus, iron, retinol, beta-carotene, vitamin A and C, thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin.
Marang can easily be mistaken for a jackfruit ("langka" in our native dialect) or a breadfruit.
But unlike the two, Marang is smaller and softer than jackfruit and a little bigger than breadfruit.
Marang could easily be one of the most exotic and delicious fruits you could find anywhere.
In our beloved Bacolod and elsewhere in the Philippines, it is in season during the months of August, September and October ~ around the same time as Durian.
I only have one word to describe the taste of this amazing fruit = "heavenly"! ☺
